When Europeans came to America during the 17th and 18th centuries, they brought their knowledge of log home construction. Others adapted this house style. Fur traders and settlers introduced vertical log construction in the 17th century.
As frontier settlers cleared the land and erected their log cabins, they stretched south along the Appalachian valleys and into the south and back into the east. During the Revolutionary War, temporary log shelters were built by the soldiers. Logs were also used in the building of structures such as schools, churches, barns and other buildings. |
